how to make an American Quilt...gypsy style

Image
well first, you start with tons of scrap and leftover, handed down fabric. Then you have your four year old DD pick out what she likes and put it in one pile.... Then you spend a day randomly cutting out squares to fit your "pattern" and make it up as you go along. Decide half way through that you want a pattern with your material...and start trying to make that work... then to make it look nice and evenly random, you have to lay out all your squares to get them in order..... Once you get the top sewn together, baste it to the bottom with huge safety pins.... and hope you have it all smooth and even and that it doesn't bunch up when you sew it together. so, this is my second quilt. the first i made in high school, and it is still with me. I am working on patching some places on it now. Its like a part of me it has been around so long. I am machine quilting this one for my DD and i have been focused on nothing but it for several days! I have even gotten my DH in on th

Spa Night

Image
so i promised something to show you and here it is. Sorry the photos are horrid! I had a spa party at my house the other night and while i was running around cleaning and threatening children NOT to mess up the house i decided that i had this great SU! set and i HAD to make something for the party. The above and below photos are a holder i made for a bath minerals sample that the distributor had given me. i only had 5 of these so i needed something else to give away... so i made these little bags of chocolates. Nothing fancy..but cute and got a lot of oooohs and ahhhs from the ladies who aren't use to seeing hand stamped things. I am not sure when i will have more to post. i have been in a slump lately but since my parents are going to keep my kids for a couple of days maybe i will find my groove again. always cyndi

Father's Day Cards

Image
So here are my not so cute, but very punny Father's Day cards! the one above says...." for a dad who....stands out from the herd" and the one below says...." a dad like no udder" and on the inside it says "and that's no bull" ok, so i crack myself up. The DP i used here is part of a painting my DS did in school this year. he said it was ok to cut it up to use for these very special cards. I am pretty limited in the realm of "manly" stamps and my men do not fish or golf or boat or any of those things that a lot of people typically use for "man" cards. I went with cows! this layout is Beate's weekend sketch #50...i am not sure i did justice to her sketch..but that was my starting point! This picture i just had to share because it is so cool! this is my DS at the ASO last weekend with one of those glow sticks! isn't it cool? Well, we are off the the gulf coast tomorrow for a week! i will have a lot of blog hopping to

LEGO Star Wars Party

Image
My BFF the Duchess just had her twins 7th Bday party. They wanted a LEGO Star Wars party....you know..the video game? anyway...she made T shirts, light sabers from PVC pipe and pool noodles, a C3PO and legos from boxes, and a Darth Vader mini fig cake. You know, to look like the Lego mini fig! after many many tests for black icing that wouldn't taste bad...she ended up with butter cream icing covered in Oreo crumbs. She also spent a week or two building a Death Star pinata! she's nuts. All the kids had fun...and it was a great day!
